BJ owns Bouquets, a floral décor company that Bon Appetit Magazine included among their choice of America's top ten florists. Bouquets was named Small Business of the Year by the Denver Metro Chamber of Commerce, and was inducted into the Small Business Administration Hall of Fame. It has often been named by 5280 Magazine as Denver's Top Florist.
His design took top honors in the Colorado Retail Florists Association’s first annual Wedding Bouquet Design Competition. He has two Blue Ribbons "Best in the West" Rocky Mountain Cup Floral Design Competition. He's placed at the national Sylvia Cup floral competition.
BJ’s designs have been featured in Florists’ Review Magazine. Bouquets was runner-up twice for WFFSA national “Retail Florist of the Year.” BJ’s brides voted him the “Best of Weddings” designation in The Knot Magazine. Each year, Bouquets has provided decor for hundreds of huge showpiece fundraising galas and society weddings including the world premiere galas for Disney’s The Little Mermaid and The Lion King.
BJ has served several terms on the international board of directors for AIFD, the American Institute of Floral Designers; has served as president of Teleflora’s Rocky Mountain Unit; was a founding board member of Colorado Retail Florists Association; has served on the board of Floral Association of the Rockies.
BJ was named Marketer of the Year by the Society of American Florists in their annual contest; the only two-time winner in the history of this prestigious award. He's the only person to appear three times on the cover of Floral Management Magazine. He was also inducted into SAF’s American Academy of Floriculture. BJ has passed the rigorous testing to be designated a Certified Evaluator/Judge.
He presents regularly to Garden Club of America chapters throughout the country, addressing sold-out audiences from Maryland to Hawaii. BJ represented the USA, lecturing on and demonstrating American floral trends onstage at China’s international floral expo held in Zhengzhou. He has twice presented programs on the international stage of the AIFD Symposium, in Chicago and Boston.
He has been a trustee on the boards of Colorado Symphony Orchestra, Denver Botanic Gardens, Friends of Painting and Sculpture, supporting the Denver Art Museum. He's served on committees benefiting Rocky Mountain MS Center, The Adoption Exchange, Denver Art Museum’s Salon d’Arts, Volunteers of America, The Kempe Foundation, and other local non-profits.
